Thomas J. Wiens, Chief Executive Officer

Tom Wiens is a seasoned entrepreneur with experience spanning several industries. His diverse business background includes agriculture, communications, energy, finance, hospitality, insurance, metals, real estate, recycling, retail and technology. He is a get-it-done leader with real-world experience focused on results.

Tom has assisted in the structuring and financing of hundreds of millions of dollars of transactions focusing on securing and closing senior debt, sub debt, preferred and common equity and credit enhancements. He has managed and integrated numerous business mergers and acquisitions in numerous industries with both public and private entities. Tom has led the successful planning, design, construction and financing of multiple projects.

He has significant experience creating value in permitting and entitlements. Tom is an expert on Western water rights and has successfully developed water rights and metropolitan districts. He has strong and effective negotiating skills dealing with private business as well as state, federal and local governments. Tom has also advised and participated in resolving various Super Fund and mining issues in Colorado. He is a much sought-after speaker, communicator and thought leader in a wide range of business and public policy issues.

As chairman of Wiens Ranch Co., Inc., Tom has developed a nationally known Quarter Horse breeding program, producing winners in two of the three Jewels of the Triple Crown of the National Cutting Horse Association. Tom has been involved for many years in the commercial and registered cattle business.

Tom Wiens served as both a State Representative and a State Senator in the Colorado Legislature. He authored key pieces of legislation, including a model school safety bill, and spearheaded state and federal efforts to clean up a massive build-up of toxic waste water at the Leadville Mine Drainage Tunnel after years of neglect. He was a major force protecting citizens’ private property rights against unlawful condemnation by private toll road companies. For his many achievements, he received the Guardian of Small Business Award, was named Legislator of the Year and was given the Common Sense in the Courtroom award for his work in fighting lawsuit abuse. He has been awarded U.S. and international patents and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Tom earned his bachelor’s degree from The American University in Washington D.C. and also studied international economics at the University of Graz, Austria. He earned his Masters of Divinity from Yale University. He has served on the board of The Children’s Hospital Research Institute Foundation and local Chambers of Commerce, been a director of the National Cutting Horse Association, a member of the Colorado Cattleman’s Association, the Colorado Mining Association and active in several charities.

Mark Overton, Director of Market Analysis

Mark Overton brings nearly 15 years of investment and finance knowledge to the New West Capital team. His areas of expertise include corporate finance, real estate investments, private equity, financial planning and an extensive knowledge of securities markets and trading. His experience base includes acquisition due diligence, equity research, identifying macroeconomic trends and drilling down on the important financial metrics of a deal. Mark has worked at large publicly traded companies and small family-owned offices and understands the complexities and various capital needs of differing organizations. Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from California State University, Chico, and has held various securities licenses throughout his career.

Stephen Adams, Director of Communications & Research

Steve Adams is a veteran journalist and public relations practitioner with extensive experience in newspaper, magazine, book and Internet publishing. He is the author of six books and award-winning magazine articles. As director of government relations for a large Midwestern public relations firm, Steve provided media & investor relations services for major health insurers as well as wide-ranging corporate communications, including quarterly financial reports, executive speeches and testimony before two state legislatures. Steve has been an editor at three magazines and has done front-line reporting, writing and photojournalism from more than 30 countries. He is a graduate of Urbana University, with a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology. Additional course work at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and New Geneva Seminary.
